ALFA ROMEO 1750 SPIDER VELOCE 1967 GRADUATE
EXCEPTIONAL RESTORATION JUST COMPLETED
This stunning 1750 Spider Veloce is one of the most sought-after and appreciated models by collectors worldwide. Its fame skyrocketed thanks to its appearance in the iconic film *The Graduate* starring Dustin Hoffman, immediately becoming highly desired for its outstanding performance and particularly sleek and innovative design. This specific example was produced on December 27, 1967, and initially delivered to a dealership in Frankfurt, Germany, where it was sold on July 12, 1968.

Over the years, the car changed hands: in the early 1980s, it was exported to Miami, Florida, USA, where it continued to maintain its popularity. In 2017, it returned to Europe and was imported into the Netherlands by a local classic car dealer. Shortly after, it was sold to an Italian collector who undertook a meticulous, full restoration carried out by highly skilled craftsmen. This restoration, which took seven years to complete, involved every aspect of the car, from the bodywork and paint to the mechanical systems, electrical components, upholstery, and chrome details. A detailed photographic service documents all the stages of the work carried out.

In 2018, the car was awarded the ASI historical relevance certificate and was registered before the restoration began. It has already passed two mandatory biennial technical checks, valid until February 2027, further certifying its efficiency and originality.

Accompanied by the Alfa Romeo origin certificate, confirming the car’s original colors, this model presents a rare opportunity for a collector. The careful and expensive restoration work has greatly increased its value, yet today the car is offered for sale at a much lower price than the cost of the restoration, ready for immediate use with the “turnkey” formula.

ALFA ROMEO 1750 SPIDER VELOCE 1967 – Characteristics and Technical Details

The 1967 Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce represents one of the finest examples of Italian automotive production, combining elegance, performance, and innovation in a perfect balance. This car was designed to combine sublime aesthetics with excellent driving dynamics and was one of the main protagonists in the golden era of Italian roadsters. The 1750 model, part of the famous “Duetto” series, stands out for several features that make it particularly interesting to collectors.

Design and Aesthetic Lines

The exterior design of the 1750 Spider Veloce is signed by the renowned design house Pininfarina, which crafted a car with a fluid and captivating profile. The sleek and aerodynamic lines are accentuated by the long hood, slightly flared fenders, and short tail, giving the car a sporty yet elegant look. The low windshield, combined with tiny side windows and a soft top, gives the Spider a light and agile appearance. The Veloce version is characterized by more refined details, such as chrome bumpers, door handles, and rear lights, adding a touch of class to the overall aesthetic.

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the 1750 Spider Veloce is the 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,779 cm³, producing approximately 118 horsepower (87 kW), allowing the car to reach a top speed of over 180 km/h. This engine, derived from the 1750 sedan, was optimized to offer sporting performance while maintaining a good balance between power and reliability. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, enabling quick and precise gear shifts, combining driving pleasure with everyday practicality. Thanks to its weight distribution and front-engine, rear-drive configuration, the Spider Veloce offers exceptional handling, with agility that makes it perfect for tight curves and mountain roads.

Suspension and Chassis

The 1750 Spider Veloce is equipped with independent front double wishbone suspension and rear rigid axle suspension, offering an excellent balance between comfort and sporty performance. The car’s response to road undulations is quick, making the drive highly reactive and precise. The steel chassis is reinforced to ensure durability and safety while maintaining the car’s overall weight, keeping the Spider agile and responsive.

Brakes and Safety

The braking system of the 1750 Spider Veloce consists of ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels, a system that provides superior braking performance compared to most cars of its time. The effectiveness of the braking system contributes to greater safety when driving, especially at high speeds. The brake pedal is well-modulated and offers a linear response, essential for both sporty and safe driving.

Interior and Comfort

The interior of the 1750 Spider Veloce exemplifies meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship typical of Alfa Romeo. The seats, are ergonomic and designed to provide maximum comfort even during long trips. The wooden steering wheel, with its classic yet sporty design, is a pleasure to touch and enhances the driving experience. The dashboard is equipped with high-quality analog instruments, including a tachometer, a speedometer, and clear indicators for all major functions, maintaining a vintage but functional look.

Convertible Top and Open-Air Comfort

As a roadster, the 1750 Veloce is equipped with a canvas convertible top that can be easily opened to enjoy the open-air driving experience, a true hallmark of this car. The top is designed to be both durable and easily foldable, allowing the car to transform from an elegant coupe to a sporty roadster in just a few minutes. The quality of the materials used ensures that, even with the top down, comfort remains high, and wind protection is optimal.

Evolution and Rarity

The Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce was produced in limited numbers, increasing its value as a collector’s item. The Veloce version, in particular, featured superior finishes compared to the standard version, and its rarity makes it even more desirable. Only a few units of this model were produced, further enhancing its appeal and the difficulty in finding one in excellent condition.
