MASERATI MERAK 3000 – 1976

Originally registered in Rome in 1976, this magnificent Maserati Merak 3000 is a genuine icon of Italian automotive engineering and design from the 1970s. It is a European-spec model equipped with the 3.0-litre engine, free from the visual compromises required for the US market.

In 2017, the last owner acquired the vehicle in fully original condition, and decided to undertake a complete mechanical restoration, along with a professional repaint in its original color. The meticulous restoration process spanned several years and was completed in 2021.

At its first inspection following the restoration, the car showed only 16,096 km from new. The subsequent documented mileage is as follows:

2023 inspection: 19,737 km
2025 inspection: 20,804 km
Current reading: approximately 21,000 km, indicating less than 5,000 km driven since the mechanical overhaul.
The current inspection is valid until May 2027. The car is fully operational, road-ready, and equally suited for regular use or display in a prestigious collection.

The car comes with a comprehensive photographic documentation of the restoration, thoroughly illustrating every stage of the work carried out — from mechanical components to bodywork — providing a clear and complete record of the quality and accuracy of the restoration process.

Technical Specifications and Design

The Merak is powered by a 2,965 cc V6 engine, designed by Maserati and derived from the Citroën SM unit, but further developed for this lightweight grand tourer. The engine is transversely mounted in the rear-mid position, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, ensuring ideal weight distribution and engaging performance.

Power: approx. 190 hp
Top speed: over 230 km/h
Independent suspension on all four wheels
Four-wheel disc brakes
Rear-wheel drive
Curb weight: approx. 1,400 kg
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign, the Merak features a sleek and aerodynamic silhouette with distinctive Citroën-inspired interior elements such as the oval dashboard instrumentation, single-spoke steering wheel, and hydraulic controls — all adding a unique French-Italian character to this GT.

The interior is finished in original leather and carpeting, and includes a pair of rear jump seats in the classic 2+2 configuration of the era

The car comes with a comprehensive photographic documentation of the restoration, thoroughly illustrating every stage of the work carried out — from mechanical components to bodywork — providing a clear and complete record of the quality and accuracy of the restoration process.
